Reading (along with baseball) is one of my true passions. Over the last few years, one of the plethora of joys I've had in being a parent is sharing that joy with Maia. Its been easy to do, considering my love of books, and Jackie's love of children's book (her being a Kindergarten teacher and all). From the very first night we brought Maia home from the hospital, we started a routine where we read two books at bedtime. And books have always been available for Maia, in baskets or drawers in every room we hang out in our house, and she has often picked them. She has her favorites, which we read again and again; but she also loves getting and hearing new stories - as evidence from the pure joy she exhibits whenever we make a trip to the local library. Suffice to say, she likes her books.
So, when we moved Maia into the bigger bedroom about a month ago, one of Jackie's ideas was to create a "reading corner," with easy to reach "bookcases" on the walls, a comfy rug on the floor, and a good place to put all the large stuffed animals she's gotten over the years, and put them to good use as pillows, etc. So, yesterday morning, we got to work early and set up Maia's reading corner.
