We had already decided on the name Ellie, and on the drive home the name just seemed to fit her personality. She was all over the place, climbing all over Jackie in the passenger seat, over Jackie's head and back down again. She would lean into your face and start licking away...we called them puppy attacks at the time. It was so adorable that she immediately took our hearts.
All of this is to say, we should have known. The dog that was able to take our hearts needed it to survive, as she was over the top mischievous and full of energy. It seemed like it took her forever to learn certain commands, but eventually she did. Ultimately, its been a fun year. There was some nerves when she had to have surgery. But she bounced back, and let us know that the dip in her energy was only momentary, as she was soon once again running circles around us.
Of course, my favorite memory with her happens everyday...as I walked in the door and she is just beside herself with excitement and joy that I am home; jumping up and down, begging to be paid attention to, providing all sorts of licks and affection. It immediately makes whatever has gone wrong with my day disappear in that moment. It's great, truly great.
I sometimes can't believe it has already been a year with her in our family. She was so small when we got her, 3 pounds, tiny. While she is still only 9 pounds now, it seems like a world of difference. Anyway, its a fun thought to think about how life has been enriched this past year because of Ellie. Just another great blessing!
Ellie, then...
