A (Very) Short Walk in the Woods

This past weekend was Jackie's birthday, and though our "adventure" that we will take is still a couple weeks away, we got a little preview over the weekend.  On Sunday, we drove over to Pokagon State Park to meet Jackie's parents for a picnic lunch.  Jackie, Maia, and I arrived a little earlier, so we could do a short trail walk before lunch.  It was a fall type of morning, with most of the ground still wet from the rain the previous day, mostly gray and cloudy, but peaks of Sun every now and again.  The temperature sat in the 60s, perfect for walking through the trails, but made you a little chilly and craving a warm drink if you were sitting still; the type of day that is so common in the Fall.

While the colors hadn't really started to change, our short walk on a trail was what we look for - peaceful, with the quiet noises of nature around us our only conversation, and the blanket of the woods around the trail letting us feel alone and isolated from the noise, in all its form, of the world.  We walked to the saddle barn area and let Maia look at the horses, before heading back to our picnic area to meet for lunch.  Following lunch, we drove around to where the saddle barns and arranged for Maia to have a short pony ride; which she of course loved.  A short time later, we were on our way back home.

It's good to have a face to face conversation in today's age.

Always making friends with the horses.

Excited just before the pony ride.

It was a short time, but filled with some nice moments, and definitely has me looking forward to our trip and more extensive trail walking at Pokagon in a few more weeks.

Well, hello there (in my best Obi-Wan Kenobi impersonation). It's been over two years since I last posted anything here, and even then I...
