Another week gone by, meaning another time for me to post progress on the exercise front. For whatever reason, I felt like I had trouble getting motivated each morning, resulting in missing Tuesday morning. Despite that, I had a good weekend, getting five days after a Saturday morning workout. I didn't really focus on trying to get faster, just sticking with the usual 45 minutes and getting over two miles each day. On Wednesday, I got interrupted as I had to take Ellie outside for her to do her business, so I ended up walking two thirty minute sessions before and after the trip outside. So, in sum, 4 days for 45 minutes and 1 day at 60 minutes. Considering I felt that I lacked motivation, I ended up sticking with the commitment well.
Part of the reason, I think, for the lack of motivation is that I haven't felt like I've seen much progress yet. At least physically...I can't tell much difference in the way I look, which is probably unrealistic expectations after only six weeks of committed exercise. But I have to remind myself that it took me awhile to even get to the point where I could walk 2 miles in 45 minutes. This past week I did it as fairly routine, when I wasn't trying to walk faster and mix running into it. That, in and of itself, is a sign of some small progress. And in general, I just have to remember that this process, to use a common saying, is a marathon, not a sprint. I can't get caught up in seeing some immediate results, and just commit myself to the long term, knowing this will lead to a better life.
