Working the Polls

Today, for the sixth consecutive election (2010 Primary and General Mid-Terms, 2011 Primary and General Municipal, and 2012 Primary and General Presidential), I staffed a local precinct polling place as a poll worker.  These are long days, arriving an hour before the polls open, and staying at least an hour afterwards to wrap things up, close the polls, and deliver our precinct polling results.  Despite the long days, I have thoroughly enjoyed these opportunities.  Its fun to see the pride people take in voting; its refreshing to work with members of both parties without any animosity, but with strong cooperation and a sense of civic duty.

Now, I spend the rest of my night watching election results, while hoping that my candidates win, being always thankful I live in a country that gives a say, regardless of how small, in how my leaders are selected and how my country is governed.
